PVT Joseph D. Mobile was born 19 Nov 1921 in Archbald, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of 5 children born to Francesco "Frank" and Maria Grace (Bellantino) Mobile (or Mobilia). Both parents were natives of Italy. The family apparently moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey soon after his birth where his father worked as a machine operator. Joseph went to public school in Elizabeth. He worked at Davis Engineering Corporation in Elizabeth and indulged his interest in music as an accordionist with a band that played at the Nine O'Clock Club in New Market, New Jersey.
Joseph was drafted in November 1942. After training at Camp Maxey, Texas he was sent to England in March 1944 and assigned to A Company 116th Infantry. He did not have long to train for the amphibious landing on the coast of northern France in which the unit was to participate. The assault took place on 6 Jun 1944 and PVT Mobile was one of the many soldiers in A Company killed on that day.
PVT Mobile rests forever in the Normandy American Cemetery.
His older brother, Anthony J. Mobile, served at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey in the Signal Corps.
