PVT Thomas Sylvester Leahey

PVT Thomas Sylvester Leahey was born 31 Dec 1924 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio the first of four children born to Thomas Anthony and Mary A. (Gilmartin) Leahey.  His parents divorced before 1940 and mother moved with her children into her mother's home in Cleveland, Ohio. 

Thomas was drafted in June 1943.  After basic he was sent to England and assigned to H Company 116th Infantry.  He likely arrived in England about November 1943 so there was not much time for him to train with H Company.  PVT Leahey was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944, D-Day, taking part in the amphibious assault.

PVT Leahey is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery. His father was a veteran of the first World War serving as a PFC in I Company 22 Engineers with the American Expeditionary Force in France.
