PVT Richard Powhatan Hall

PVT Richard Powhatan Hall was born 16 Oct 1917 in Proffitt, Virginia to Alvin Richard and Susan Antoinette (Bourne) Hall.  The family farmed and his father worked as a carpenter.  In 1940 Richard was working at a service station. 

Richard was drafted in May 1941 and was still working at a service station.  He married Anna Stuart Fitzhugh on 19 Jul 1941 in Stanardsville, Virginia.  His training completed he was assigned to F Company 116th Infantry and shipped with that unit to England in September 1942.  While in England he trained for the amphibious assault that was to take place on the French beaches in Normandy.  It was in that assault on 6 Jun 1944 that he was killed in action.

PVT Hall is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery. Anna remarried.  Richard's only brother, Hanford Bourne Hall, served from 1944 to 1946.
