SSG Samuel James Baker was born 6 Sep 1915 in Randolph County, West Virginia to John Cornelius and Leona Grace (Conrad) Baker. The oldest of 6 children and the first of 2 sons. Brother Paul died in 1934 when he drowned in Shepperd Creek in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
Samuel was living in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania when he was drafted in August 1941. At some point in time he was assigned to A Company 116th Infantry and was with that unit when he was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944, D-Day.
SSG Baker is buried in the Tioga Point Cemetery in Athens, Pennsylvania.
