PFC Walter Raleigh Jones Jr.

 PFC Walter Raleigh Jones Jr. was born 22 Nov 1920 in Raleigh, North Carolina to Walter Raleigh and Ina Bessie (Mooneyham) Jones. The family farmed.  In 1940 Walter was working as a truck driver and reported a 1939 income of $238.

Walter entered army service in November 1942.  After basic training he was sent overseas.  He must have been assigned to some other unit before he was transferred from the replacement depot to B Company 116th Infantry on 9 Sep 1944.  He served as a rifleman in that unit until killed in action on 18 Nov 1944.

PFC Jones is buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery. There is a cenotaph in the Inwood Baptish Church Cemetery in Raleigh, North Carolina.
