PVT Edward Eugene Russell

PVT Edward Eugene Russell was born 10 Jul 1907 in Charleston, Arkansas. He was the 6th of 9 children born to Francis L. and Sarah Caldwell (Hunter) Russell. The family farmed near Prairie and then Beverly, Arkansas before moving to Pocola, Oklahoma. Edward's father died in 1925. It was near Pocoloa that Edward supported the family by farming. Edward married Mary Irene Shaw in May 1933. The couple then moved to Van Buren, Arkansas tolive with Mary's family and where Edward worked for Ward's Furniture Factory.

Edward was drafted in 1944 and after basic training was sent to the European theater. He arrived at the replacement depot in October 1944 and was transferred to G Company 116th Infantry on 25 Oct 1944. PVT Russell fought with G Company until killed in action near Baesweiler, Germany as G Company took part in an attack on German forces in Setterich on 18 Nov 1944.

PVT Russell rests forever in the Netherlands American Cemetery.

His brother served. John Wallace Russell served as a PVT in A Company 30th Infantry.
