PVT Robert Burkett Rouzer was born 27 Feb 1917 in South Fork, Pennsylvania. He was the 4th of the 8 children born to Jacob William and his second wife Bessie Elizabeth (Bellock) Rouzer. Robert also had 7 older half-siblings. His father farmed near Licking Creek, Pennsylvania. Younger brother, Harry Steven Rouzer died in infancy from an accidental poisoning in March 1933. Robert married Margaret Elizabeth House in August 1937 in Cumberland, Maryland. The couple first lived in Fulton County and were blessed with a daughter in March 1938. Younger sister, Dotte Shirley Rouzer, died at age 5 in January 1941 from complications of a brain injury suffered at birth. Robert and his family moved to Greencastle, Pennsylvania in October 1943 when he accepted a position as a mechanic in the E. G. Hoachlander Garage.
Robert was drafted in April 1944 going first to Fort Meade, Maryland before taking basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama. After a furlough at home he was sent to the European theater in October 1944. He was transferred from the replacement depot to G Company 116th Infantry on 25 Oct 1944 serving as a rifleman. PVT Rouzer was killed in action in or near Setterich, Germany on 18 November 1944 when the 116th was fighting to capture that town.
PVT Rouzer was repatriated in 1949 and re-interred in the Asbury United Methodist Cemetery in Harrisonville, Pennsylvania.
