PFC George Carr Redfern

PFC George Carr Redfern was born 23 Feb 1915 in Anson County, North Carolina. He was the youngest of the 6 children born to Reverend Rupert David and Judia May (Hendley) Redfern. His father farmed and sold men's clothing as well as preached before dying in 1934. He married Virginia Gladys Smith. The couple rented rooms at 138 South Broome Street in Albemarle, North Carolina and George and Virginia worked at the Hugh Gray Hosiery Mill in Concord, North Carolina reporting a 1939 income of $1800. In February 1941, the couple had a daughter who would be their only child.

George was drafted in April 1944. After his basic military training and one, last, 14-day visit home to visit his wife and daughter, he was sent to the European theater. PVT Redfern was transferred from the replacement depot to C Company 116th Infantry on 28 Oct 1944. He was promoted to PFC on 11 Nov 1944 and killed in action on 18 Nov 1944.

PFC Redfern was repatriated and re-interred in Fairview Memorial Park in Albemarle, North Carolina.

Virginia never re-married. His daughter and a grandson are living today.
