CPT Robert Barnes Ware was born 30 Dec 1914 in Amherst County, Virgina to Dr. Reuben Barnes and Birdie (Drummond) Ware. The youngest boy of 11 children of whom 6 were boys, Robert first graduated from Amherst High School, then attended Virginia Polytechnical Institute (Virginia Tech) and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1940 interning at Lynchburg General Hospital.
He and Martha Frances Wood were married 30 Jul 1938. They had one son, Robert Barnes Ware Jr.
When the war began he volunteered for service, was assigned to the 104th Medical Battalion of the 29th Infantry Division and then to the Medical Detachment of the 116th Infantry Regiment. He was hit between the eyes as he made the sands and was killed 6 Jun 1944 and now rests forever in the Normandy American Cemetery. For his actions that date he was awarded the Bronze Star for valor.
His wife, Martha, remarried in 1950 and died in 2002.
