PFC Francis M. Malinowski was born 19 Jul 1915 in Fishersville, Michigan. He was the 4th of 5 children born to Frank Stanley and Cecelia M. (Tomczak) Malinowski. His father worked in a lumber mill and at the local power company but by 1940 had gone to work for the WPA.
After entering the service, Francis was assigned to E Company 116th Infantry in time to participate with that unit in the amphibious assault on occupied France that took place at "Omaha" beach, on the shore at Vierville-sur-mer in Normandy. PFC Malinowski was wounded in that attack on 6 Jun 1944 and died of his wound(s) on 7 Jun 1944.
PFC Malinowski was repatriate and re-interred in Saint Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery in Bay City, Michigan.
Brother, Edmund Stanley Malinowski, also served in the Army during the war.
