PVT Robert C. Reece was born 4 May 1924 in Buffalo, New York. He was the 3rd of 6 children born to Earl Leroy and Wilhemina (Berns) Reece. His paternal grandparents had immigrated from Canada and his maternal grandparents had immigrated from Germany. His father had worked as a traveling salesman for a soap manufacturer but by 1940 was working for the Works Progress Administration. The family was renting at 139 Forest Avenue in Buffalo.
Robert was drafted in February 1943. After his basic military training he was sent to England and assigned to A Company 116th Infantry where he trained for the amphibious assault planned for the Normandy coast of occupied France. He took part in that attack and was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.
PVT Reece was repatriated in 1947 and re-interred in the Acacia Park Cemetery in North Tonawanda, New York.
