SSG Melvin Henry Granger was born 6 Feb 1921 in Halifax County, Virginia the eldest son of Henry Melvin and Louise Elwood (Lacy) Granger. His father was a warehouse clerk and died in 1938.
Melvin was a SGT in April 1941 when he re-enlisted for the duration of the war. At some time after that, he was assigned to F Company 116th Infantry. He trained with the unit for the amphibious assault and made that assault with F Company. Wounded on 6 Jun 1944, SSG Granger died of his wound(s) on 7 Jun 1944.
SSG Granger is buried in the Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Scottsburg, Virginia.
