PFC Frederick Weber Schleich

PFC Frederick Weber Schleich was born 5 Apr 1922 in Fairview, Illinois. He was the 2nd of 5 children and only son born to Peter Harrison and Geraldine Sebia (Winter) Schleich. Fred's older sister died aged 1-year just 1 month after he was born. His father worked as a clerk or cashier at a local bank earning a reported 1939 income of $1200 and owning a home valued at $2500 in 1940. Fred was attending the Milwaukee School of Electrical Engineering.

Fred was drafted just before completing his course and was sent to Camp Croft, South Carolina for training after which he was sent to the European theater. PVT Schleich was transferred from the replacement depot to G Company 116th Infantry on 22 Jul 1944. Serving as a rifleman and bazooka man he fought with the unit until killed in action near Vire, France on 7 Aug 1944.

PFC Schleich was repatriated and re-interred in Fairview Cemetery in Fairview, Illinois.
