PVT Alexander J. Halkoski was born 18 Oct 1917 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin to Martinus and Magdalene (Groshek) Halkoski. The family farmed. His father was a Polish immigrant. On 13 Sep 1941 he married Mayme Theresa Kulas. They had a daughter in March 1942.
Alexander was drafted in December 1942. He was working in a foundry at that time. He was trained as a rifleman and sent to England where he was assigned to G Company 116th Infantry. He landed with the unit in the D-Day assault and fought with the unit until he was killed in action on 7 Aug 1944.
Alexander was repatriated and is buried in the Guardian Angel Cemetery in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Mayme did not remarry until 1951 and passed away in 2001. Their daughter had several children and grandchildren and died in 2016.
