PVT William H. Linden

PVT William H. Linden was born about 1913 in East Saint Louis, Illinois to George Edward and Ethel (Youngman) Linden.  His father was a brakeman for the Illinois Central Rail Road. In 1940 William was living with his wife Elsie and their son William Jr. and he was working for the Works Progress Administration.  William reported a 1939 income of $681 and was paying $12 a month rent.

William entered the Army in December 1943. After basic training he was sent to the European theater in June 1944.  PVT Linden was transferred from the replacement depot to L Company 116th Infantry on 26 Jul 1944.  He was killed in action near Vire on 7 Aug 1944.

PVT Linden was buried in the Brittany American Cemetery.
