PFC Isaac Rufus Wilson

PFC Isaac Rufus Wilson was born in Thomasville, Georgia on 23 Nov 1921. He was the 8th of 9 children born to George Ashton and Susan Savilla (Donaldson) Wilson. His father farmed his own farm in Thomas County, Georgia. Isaac's education never progressed past grammar school and took up farming as well. He married Eula Evelyn Wiley in February 1941.

Isaac was drafted in December 1942. After initial training at Fort McPherson, PVT Wilson was sent to England probably in November or December 1943. We do not know what his duties were there. PFC Wilson was transferred from the replacement depot to C Company 116th Infantry on 5 Jul 1944. He fought with the unit in the liberation of Saint Lo. PFC Wilson was killed in action near Vire, France on 5 Aug 1944 the day after his daughter was born in Thomasville.

PFC Wilson was repatriated in 1948 and re-interred in Harmony Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Barwick, Georgia.

Isaac's extended family made many sacrifices in WW2. 2 cousins died in service with the 121st Infantry. TSGT Clifton Willie Donaldson and PVT Thomas William Donaldson were killed at La Haye-du-Puits, France and Bonn, Germany respectively. Brothers, Ansel Reuben Wilson and Thomas Watson Wilson, also served in the army during the war.
