PVT Foy Neal Gamble was born 20 Nov 1915 in Iron City, Tennessee to William Thomas and Minnie Nora (Smith) Gamble. Foy's father died about 1916. The family farmed. In 1940 Foy was working on road construction and reported a 1939 income of $600. Foy had married Virginia E. Wright of Lauderdale County, Alabama and moved there. The couple would have a son in 1943.
Foy entered the Army in October 1943. He attended his training and was sent overseas and on 19 Jun 1944 was transferred from the replacement depot to F Company 116th Infantry. PVT Gamble was killed in action on 7 Aug 1944.
PVT Gamble was repatriated and is buried in the Shiloh Church of Christ Cemetery in Green Hill, Alabama. Virginia never re-married and several descendants are surviving the couple today.
