PVT Ottis Arvel White

PVT Ottis Arvel White was born 27 Oct 1922 in Cullman, Alabama. He was the 2nd of the 5 children born to James Henry and Noda Belle (Harding) White. His father farmed on land he owned near Jones Chapel, Alabama. Ottis was able to complete 2-years of high school before quitting to work for his father. 

Ottis was drafted in December 1942 and began his military training at Fort McClellan, Alabama. He was sent to England and transferred from the replacement depot to K Company 116th Infantry on 19 Jun 1944 to serve as a rifleman. PVT White fought with the unit through the bocage, at Saint-Lo and then at Vire before being killed in action on 7 Aug 1944. 

PVT White was repatriated and re-interred with family at Sardis #2 Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Winston County, Alabama.
