SSG John Kraft was born in Buffalo, New York on 6 Apr 1916. He was the fith of the seven children of Oscar Arthur and Mary A. (Brauer) Kraft. His father worked in various manufacturing jobs earning $600 in 1939 but doing well enough to own his home on Gowanda State Road in Buffalo valued at $2000 in 1940. John was working as an "interstate" driver in 1940 operating Kraft Truck Lines.
John was living in Eden, New York when he was drafted in August 1941. Eventually assigned to I Company 116th Infantry, he was killed in action on 8 Aug 1944 near Vire, France.
SSG Kraft was repatriated and re-interred in the Evergreen Cemetery in Eden, New York.
