SGT Johnnie H. Whedbee

SGT Johnnie H. Whedbee was born in April 1895, probably in Gates County, North Carolina the youngest surviving child of 7 children born to Richard Henry and Julia (Howell) Whedbee.  The family moved to Suffolk, Virginia where his father ran a grocery.

After entering the Army, Johnnie was assigned to E Company 116th Infantry.  He embarked with the unit for France on the Finland on 13 Jun 1918.  SGT Whedbee was wounded and died of his wounds on 12 Oct 1918.

SGT Whedbee was repatriated in 1922 and re-interred in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
