PFC Victor Joseph Vallei

PFC Victor Joseph Vallei was born 20 Mar 1916 in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania the 3rd of what would be 7 children of Altobrando and Nicolina (Pompa) Vallei. His father worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road and the family lived at the home they rented at 614 Second Avenue in Altoona, Pennsylvania for many years which was very close to the rail yard. He owned the home by 1940 and it was then valued at $800. The building no longer exists. Altobrando reported a 1939 income of $921. Victor also went to work for the railroad. The family attended the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Juniata, Pennsylvania.

Victor was drafted in March 1942 and after training at Fort George Meade, Maryland and Fort Bragg, North Carolina he went to England. PFC Vallei was transferred from the replacement depot to Headquarters and Headquarters Company 3rd Battalion 116th Infantry on 22 Jul 1944 to serve as a scout. PFC Vallei was killed in action in Germany on 6 Oct 1944.

PFC Vallei was repatriated in 1947 with intended re-interment in the Greenwood Cemetery in Altoona, Pennsylvania but was apparently re-interred in the Calvary Cemetery in Altoona where he is buried with his parents.
