Herbert was a sales clerk when he was drafted in April 1943. After basic training he was sent to the European theater and on 3 Sep 1944 was transferred from the replacement depot to M Company 116th Infantry. PVT Lillard was wounded and died of his wound(s) on 6 Oct 1944.
PVT Lillard was repatriated in 1948 and re-interred in the Robinson River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Brightwood, Virginia.
Father, Claude Lillard, served in the Army during the first World War.
