PVT Holger John Rosberg Jr

PVT Holger John Rosberg Jr. was born 5 Mar 1915 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the eldest of Holger John and Astrid (Wingaard) Rosberg's 3 sons. The elder Holger was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and had immigrated at age 2 with his family in 1889. He supported his family by working in various jobs such as managing credit accounts and insurance broker before going to work clerking for the Illinois state attorney's office. He reported a 1939 income of $5200. The younger Holger likewise entered the white collar world and in 1940 was working as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Chicago, still living at home. The family rented an apartment at 3250 La Moyne in Chicago.

Holger was drafted sometime in late 1943 or early 1944. After completing his basic military training he was sent to the European theater. PVT Rosberg was transferred from the replacement depot to E Company 116th Infantry on 13 Jul 1944 as a rifleman. He was killed in action near Saint-Lo on 14 Jul 1944.

PVT Rosberg is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.

Holger's brother Joffre Wesley Rosberg served as a TSGT in the U.S. Army during the war. The youngest brother, Richard W. Rosberg served in the Merchant Marine.
