PFC Daniel Richard DeJarnette was born 7 Oct 1920 in Halifax County, Virginia to Henry Coleman and Virginia Diane (DeJarnette) DeJarnette. The family farmed in Halifax County.
Daniel was a PVT in the South Boston unit of the National Guard when it was federalized in February 1941. As a member of F Company 116th Infantry he trained with the unit in the U.S. and England and made the D-Day landing with that unit on 6 Jun 1944. Surviving the assault on Omaha Beach, PVT DeJarnette was transferred to A Company 116th Infantry on 11 Jun 1944 to make up for some of the losses that unit had suffered on the 6th. He was killed in action on 18 Jul 1944.
Repatriated in 1948, PFC DeJarnette is buried in Childrey Baptist Church Cemetery in Nathalie, Virginia next to his parents.
