PFC Stanley Charles Wesolowski was born in Toledo, Ohion on 23 Jun 1917. He was the oldest of the 4 children of Josephine (Kraszynski) and her 2nd husband Joseph Wesolowski. Joseph worked in various local factories. Josephine had 8 children by her first husband but 2 had died in their 20s. Stanley's parents divorced before 1940 but his mother owned the home at 1548 Avondale in Toledo which was valued at $2000 in 1940. Stanley graduated from high school and began working at a local theater but his younger sister may have been supporting the family by working in a clothing factory.
When Stanley was drafted in November 1942 he was supporting his mother. After completing his basic military training he was sent to England and assigned to some military unit there. He was probably with that unit on D-Day but was not wounded until August when he was wounded in the face by fragments from an artillery round. He was transferred from the replacement depot to C Company 116th Infantry on 19 Aug 1944. The unit was just beginning its part in the attack on German forces defending at Brest, France. PFC Wesolowski fought with the unit until killed in action in Brest on 1 Sep 1944.
PFC Wesolowski rests forever in the Brittany American Cemetery.
Youngest brother, Daniel Wesolowski, was a PVT in the 33rd Regiment, 3rd Armored Division when he was killed in action by artillery fire on 5 Sep 1944 and he rests in the Ardennes American Cemetery.
