After entering the service, John was sent to England and assigned to C Company 116th Infantry. He trained for and participated in the D-Day landing with that unit. PFC Hume was killed in action on 6 Jul 1944.
PFC Hume is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery. Brother James Wilson Hume served in the U.S. Army from 1934 to 1959 retiring as an SFC.
