PFC Jose Ramirez

PFC Jose Ramirez was born 13 Feb 1924 in Pharr, Texas. He was the 5th of 6 children born to Bernardo and Leonor (Fonseca) Ramirez. His father worked as a farm hand. By 1940, his older brother Adolfo was supporting the family, also as a farm hand earning a reported $520 in 1939. When he registered for the draft in 1942, Jose was working for R. E. Robie, a plumber.

Jose was drafted in September 1943. After his basic military training he was sent to England and assigned to a provisional unit awaiting the invasion of occupied France. PFC Ramirez was transferred from the replacement depot to B Company 116th Infantry on 5 Jul 1944. He was killed in action near Saint-Lo, France on 13 Jul 1944.

PFC Ramirez was repatriated in 1948 and re-interred in the El Capote Cemetery in Pharr, Texas.
