PVT Julian Cortez Ragland

PVT Julian Cortez Ragland was born 21 Jun 1916 in Pittsboro, North Carolina. He was the 3rd of 5 children born to Henry Grady and Alease (Newton) Ragland. His father worked in road construction. By 1940 Julian was still living with his parents and working in Clarksville, Virginia as a factory foreman although he reported a 1939 income of only $300. When he registered for the draft he had changed jobs and was working for the War Department.

Julian was drafted in August 1943. After his basic military training he was eventually sent to the European theater. On 13 Jul 1944 he was transferred from the replacement depot to E Company 116th Infantry. PVT Ragland was killed in action on 15 Jul 1944.

PVT Ragland is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.
