PVT Louis William Weaver was born 11 Jul 1911 in Palisade, Minnesota. He was the eldest of 4 children born to Elmer Ervin and Gertrude F. (Watson) Weaver. His father worked as a farm hand to support his family. His father died in 1922 at the age of 50. The boys may have gone to live with other families or to work on other farms. Gertrude married cousin Gustave Louis Watson, also a laborer. The home they owned in Forest River, North Dakota was valued at $50 in 1940. Louis married Louise Lucille Horner in May 1937 and the couple resided in Palisade, Minnesota where Louis worked either for himself or Clarence Alexander as a trucker. Louis and Louise had a girl in 1938 and a boy in 1940.
Louis was drafted in 1943 and after his basic military training was sent to England and then to the replacement depot from which he was transferred to B Company 116th Infantry on 16 Jul 1944 and was killed in action on that same day.
PVT Weaver was recovered quite a while after his death and he was interred in the Netherlands American Cemetery.
Louis' 2 younger brothers also served during the war. CPL Morris Lemuel Weaver served in the army and survived the war. PFC Ervin Elmer Weaver apparently died of wounds suffered in the campaign in Tunisia and rests forever in the North African American Cemetery. Louis is survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
