PVT William Robert Chesterman

PVT William Robert Chesterman was born 4 Oct 1917 in Zwingle, Iowa. He was the second of the three children born to Robert Frank and Lola Margaret (Bradley) Chesterman. His mother died of pulmonary tuberculosis age 34 in 1927 and his father remarried . His father supported the family working for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. William married Harriet Herron in October 1938. William worked in a local mill and the couple would have one son.

William was drafted on 24 Sep 1943 and  after completing his basic military training was sent to England where he awaited the invasion of Nazi occupied France. He was sent to France and assigned to Company B, 116th Infantry on 19 Jun 1944. PVT Chesterman was shot and killed in action in the vicinity of Saint-Lo, France on 12 Jul 1944. 

PVT Chesterman rests forever in the Harmony Cemetery in Zwingle, Iowa. 

William is survived today by three daughters.
