SSG James Beverly Daniel was born 27 Apr 1919 in Charlottesville, Virginia to James Travers and Annie Augusta (Franck) Daniel. His father was a machinist working for the C&O Railroad.
James was drafted in May 1941. Assigned to G Company 116th Infantry, he trained with the unit for the amphibious landing on French beaches as part of the invasion of "fortress Europe" and participated in that event as a SGT. On 20 Jun 1944 he was promoted to SSG. SSG Daniel was killed in action on 12 Jul 1944.
SSG Daniel is buried in Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville, Virginia with family.
His brothers also served. Horace William was drafted in January 1943, Frederick Eugene, was drafted in May 1944.
