PVT Harold Everett Leaman was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. He was the eldest of the 9 children born to Alexander Everett "Sandy" and Dorothy Gladys (Pearce) Leaman. Dorothy was a native of Swainsthorpe, England. His father brought the family first to Quincy, Massachusetts and then moved to Wareham, Massachusetts where the youngest 5 children were born. Sandy worked as a carpenter but in 1940 the family faced deportation because they had failed to get visas. Harold like his brothers married an American. When he registered for the draft Harold was working for L. Grossman Sons in Quincy.
Harold was drafted in October 1943 and after completing his basic military training was sent to the European theater. PVT Leaman was transferred from the replacement depot to L Company 116th Infantry on 26 Jul 1944. He was wounded on 9 Aug 1944 and evacuated to a field hospital where he died of his wound on 11 Aug 1944.
PVT Leaman was repatriated in 1949 and re-interred in the Centre Cemetery in Wareham, Massachusetts.
Younger brother, Sandy Gene Leaman, served in the U.S. Army as a PFC in Korea was wounded and lost an arm.
