1LT John Joseph McEnaney

When 1LT John Joseph McEnaney was born 2 Jan 1913 in New York, New York the eldest of James and Margaret Jane (Morahan) McEnaney's five children. James was an engineer who had worked on theater staging. Both of John's parents were Irish immigrants. John attended high school and two years of college but was unemployed in 1940. He was also working as an engineer.

John was drafted in March 1942. It must have been soon after that he was identified as officer material and sent to Officer Candidate School. He married Anna Marie Crehan in December 1942. He was sent to England, probably early in 1944 and his son, John Joseph, was born in April 1944. 1LT McEnaney was assigned to M Company 116th Infantry and was with them in the D-Day landing. It was in the vicinity of Saint-Lo, Basse-Normandie, France that 1LT McEnaney was killed in action on 15 Jul 1944.

He was buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.
