PFC Aubrey Ellsworth Smith

PFC Aubrey Ellsworth Smith was born 17 Feb 1916 in Rodney, Ohio. He was the 6th of Purl McClellan and Lona Frances (Sines) Smith's 10 children. The family farmed near Addison, Ohio and then on a small farm near Huntington, Ohio. Aubrey was working with his father on the farm.

Aubrey was drafted and sent to England after his basic military training. Once there he was assigned to M Company 116th Infantry and trained with that unit for the amphibious assault to liberate occupied France. PFC Smith survived the landing and fought with his unit until killed in action near Saint-Lo, France.

PFC Smith rests forever in the Normandy American Cemetery.

Aubrey had brothers, Herbert Verne Smith, Ernest Everette Smith and James Andrew Smith also served in WW2.
