PVT Joseph W. Goodbred

PVT Joseph W. Goodbred was born in 1907 in Hamilton County, Florida to James Quincy Stewart and Bernita Daisey (Frink) Goodbred.  The family farmed.  In 1936 Joseph married Helen Fanny Lairscey.  Joseph lived with his wife in Zephyr Hills, Florida where he worked as "yard man" on a state road crew.  He had a reported 1939 income of $1080.

Joseph was noted as being a skilled welder when he was drafted in November 1943.  Trained and sent to Europe he went to the replacement depot and from there to B Company 116th Infantry on 14 Jul 1944.  He was killed in action 2 days later, on 16 Jul 1944.

PVT Goodbred is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.  Helen and Joseph had no children.  She remarried and had 2 children with her second husband.
