PVT Homer Frederick Reimer

PVT Homer Fredrick Reimer was born 11 Oct 1910 in Ben Arnold, Texas. He was the 10th of the 11 children born to Wilhelm Fridrich August and Mary (Dahse) Reimer. His father was a native of Germany as were his maternal grandparents and his father farmed until he died in 1921. 11 year old Homer's mother continued to farm in Milam County, Texas. His mother died in 1936 and in 1940 Homer was living with his older brother Robert and farming near Burlington, Texas.

Homer was drafted in January 1944. He was sent to the European theater and arrived in England on 9 Jun 1944. It wasn't until 16 Jul 1944 that he was transferred from the replacement depot to B Company 116th Infantry. He was killed in action on that same day.

PVT Reimer now rests forever in the Normandy American Cemetery.

Two brothers also served. TSGT Charlie A. Reimer was killed serving with the 9th Infantry on 18 Dec 1944 and is buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery. CPL Walter Oscar Reimer served in the 46th General Hospital in Bensancon, France, survived the war but died of lung cancer in 1957 at the age of 48. He is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron, Texas.
