Wendell was drafted in November 1943 and after completing his basic military training was sent to England and assigned to F Company 116th Infantry. This was apparently just prior to the amphibious assault in which the company took part on 6 Jun 1944, D-Day. PVT Warren fought with unit until he was struck by fragments from an artillery shell and killed in action near Saint-Lo, France on 12 Jul 1944.
PVT Warren rests forever in the Normandy American Cemetery.
Brother, CPT Billy Scott Warren, 2532 USAAF Base Unit at Randolph Field, Texas died in service at Hondo Army Air Field outside of Hondo, Texas on 2 Sep 1945. Son, AMH3 Jimmy Scott Warren, was killed in a motor vehicle accident on Guam while serving with the U.S. Navy in 1961.
