SSG Clinton Franklin Dexter was born 7 Mar 1924 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Merton Bonney and Ethel F. Dexter. His father was superintendent at a local electric power company. His brother was a research chemist. Clinton graduated from Technical High School in Springfield and then worked at Johnson's Book Store for a short time before he was drafted.
After entering the service, Clinton was assigned to Headquarters Company 2nd Battalion 116th Infantry and made the D-Day amphibious assault with that unit. On 20 Jun 1944, Clinton was promoted from PFC to SSG. On 12 Jul 1944 SSG Dexter was killed in action.
SSG Dexter is buried in the
Normandy American Cemetery.
