SGT Wilbert Joseph Predeek

courtesy of Patty C.
SGT Wilbert Joseph Predeek was born 19 Dec 1919 in Silverton, Oregon. He was the 3rd of 9 children of William John and Elizabeth (Hug) Predeek. His father farmed and later managed a garage, worked as a carpenter, and local building inspector. Wilbert completed high school, was farming in 1940 and then became a fireman.

Wilbert was drafted in March 1942. We do not know to what units he may have been assigned in the interim but SGT Predeek was transferred from the replacement depot to I Company 116th Infantry on 18 Jun 1944. He fought with the unit until he was killed in action on 15 Jul 1944 near Saint Lo, France.

SGT Predeek was repatriated and re-interred in the Calvary Cemetery in Mount Angel, Oregon.
